Preaching ... the Centerpiece of Riverbend's Ministry

Preaching the Absolute Truth is the central focus—the chief ministry—at Riverbend.  The church is mandated to provide godly, biblically accurate preaching/teaching of the gospel, which is clearly exposed in Genesis 1:1-Revelation 22:21.

Why is preaching so important? Because Scripture (which comes directly from God) declares it to be so.  We are not only commanded to preach, but we are given examples of doing so by Jesus and His disciples.

Paul the apostle told young Timothy (2 Timothy 4:2): Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.

Some other key passages that make the preaching ministry the prime purpose of the church:

  • How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?  (Romans 10:14)
  • Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17)
  • He commanded us to preach to the people. (Acts 10:42)
  • I am eager to preach the gospel. (Paul in Romans 1:15)
  • I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God. (Jesus in Luke 4:43)
  • Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel. (1 Corinthians 9:16)
