Welcome to the Children's Ministries of Riverbend

MISSION  STATEMENT ...

The mission of Kingdom Corner is to partner with the family in preparing children for God's call on their lives by introducing them to the the GREATNESS of God and the wonders and truths of His Word.

OUR VISION ...

That the next generation will treasure Jesus Christ above all else by learning of God's greatness and sovereignty in all things through the wonders and truths of His Holy Word.

We are striving towards this vision by deliberately exposing the children of Riverbend to solid God-centered, God-honoring, God-glorifying Bible-based teaching whenever they enter our doors.  We believe that even the youngest infant in the nursery can be influenced for the gospel.

We believe as a congregation at Riverbend, that our chief end is "to glorify God and enjoy Him forever."  In Kingdom Corner, we pray that through God's mercy and grace, we will be able to teach this truth to our children.

Click on the links below to find out more about Kingdom Corner, the children's ministry of Riverbend Community Church.

"One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts." Psalm 145:4

Our nursery is available for children through 24 months.  Two year olds will only "graduate" to the next class if their birthday falls before September 1 of that year.  Check with the coordinators at the check-in desk if you have any questions as to where your child belongs.  We provide childcare during all service hours.  Our volunteers, called "Kingdom Keepers", are trained and approved by our pastoral staff.  Each one has completed a background check so you can have confidence your child(ren) are safe.

Teaching Biblical Truths Through Repetition

"And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise."  (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)

Children are always learing.  There is never a time when they are not learning.  Because of this we feel it is important to use repetition when teaching our children.  That is why we focus on a different biblical truth every month and the children are learning about that same truth every week during the month.  We are reinforcing these truths not just through a Bible story but through hands-on activities such as coloring, singing, and an occasional nature walk.  Our goal in the nursery is not to babysit but to engage your children in truth and using a curriculum helps us to stay focused and gives us purpose in teaching.

Preparation

In order to make your child's stay with us enjoyable, we have a few policies we ask all children to abide by:

  • Make sure your child has eaten and had something to drink before coming into Kingdom Corner. We will not be able to feed them breakfast/lunch/dinner. We will provide an age-appropriate snack.
  • Please be sure your child has gone to the restroom.  If your child is of a younger age, make sure you have changed his/her diaper.  Changing stations are located in the Ladies' restrooms.
  • Nursery facilities are available during service hours.  We will receive children 15 minutes prior to the start of the service providing adequate help is available.

Security

  • All children must be properly checked in before entering the room.  Register your child at the Nursery Desk, filling out information thoroughly.
  • You will be given a pager from the coordinator at the front desk when you check in your baby.
  • The pagers must be returned to the Kingdom Keeper Volunteer in the class room in order to pick up your child.
  • No one is permitted to go into the children's rooms except for scheduled Kingdom Keeper volunteers.  We ask that only one parent and the child enter the nursery to be checked in and taken to his/her appropriate room.  This will avoid crowding in the nursery.
  • Due to the disruptive nature of "visitors" in the nursery, we ask that you not check on your child between worship and Bible Fellowship Group or at any other time.  We will page you if your child needs you.

Belongings for Nursery Children

Please label all of your child's belongings.  We want to properly care for your child.  In order to do that, we have found that they should bring the following items with them:
  • blanket, pacifier or other security item
  • 2 disposable diapers and wipes
  • powder or ointment (if you use these)
  • change of clothes
  • bottle, if necessary or juice cup
  • no baby foods will be served during service times
  • bottles will be given according to parents instructions
  • if your child has special food allergies, please notify coordinator for an allergy alert sticker

Bible Fellowship Groups, also known as BFG's, are provided for ages 2 yrs. old through 5th grade.  BFG's are offered at 9:00.  These are small group classes based upon age/grade.  Each class is studying the same curriculum throughout the year.  K-5th grades will attend BFG's the same hour as their parents.  Of course, preschool ages and K-2nd are encouraged to stay for both hours as the format is different.

The Gospel Story Bible Curriculum

Currently, all children ages 2 years old through 5th grade are studying the Bible using the Gospel Story Bible Curriculum.

"The Gospel Story for Kids is a unique, three-year program that helps churches and families ground children in the gospel story from Genesis to Revelation. Children who began this program at age three will have learned and absorbed the gospel story from Genesis to Revelation three complete times. At each age level children are taught the gospel through age-appropriate illustrations, activities, coloring pages, object lessons, and memorization using the Gospel Story Sunday school curriculum, an illustrated children’s storybook Bible, The Gospel Story Bible, and two family-friendly devotionals, Long Story Short: Ten-Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God (OT) and Old Story New: Ten-Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God (NT-available October 2012)." **taken directly from the Gospel Story website gospelstoryforkids.com

Preschool (ages 2-5)

The children learn the same story at both hours but will find each class has a different format.  While one hour may use the traditional story time format, the next hour will use the same story but incorporate hands-on activities in order to reinforce the Biblical lesson.  This may include puppet shows, nature walks, or a table activity.  Our goal is that at the end of the morning, your child has had in-depth teaching and repetition of Biblical stories and lessons and can then share with their parents what they have learned.

Elementary (K-5th grades)

We offer BFG classes for K-5th grade at the 9:00 hour.  Please see the coordinator's desk for information on where your child's class will meet.  At 10:30, K-2nd grade participate in Children's Church and 3rd-5th graders attend worship service with their parents.

TAG (Truth and Grace) is our Wednesday night Kid’s Club. TAG is purposed to teach children from 3 years old through 5th grade the great truths of the Bible including creation, God, man, sin, the Ten Commandments, salvation, prayer, the church, the Bible and last things. TAG includes age appropriate Bible lessons, creative games, crafts and music. Your kids will earn awards during the year through memory work. TAG Club meets Wednesday nights from 5:15 – 6:10, September through May.

Children love to sing. They have a natural desire to do so. Kingdom Corner makes music an integral part of it’s ministry to children. Trained leaders direct a comprehensive graded choir program that begins at age 3 and continues through the 5th grade. Age-appropriate activities are available through singing, reading and performing music with the goal of teaching children music skills combined with the joy of worshipping God. Kingdom Corner’s graded choirs meet Wednesday nights from 6:15 – 7:20 and run from September through May.

SICKNESS  POLICY

To provide a safe, healthy environment for all our children, children CANNOT stay in childcare if they exhibit any of the following symptoms.  This is for the safety of the children, as well as the volunteers who serve in this ministry.

Fever
Any child with a temperature of 101 degrees or greater.

Vomiting
At any time while in childcare or within the previous 24 hours.

Diarrhea
While in childcare or within the previous 24 hours.

Runny Nose
With any colored discharge.

Bad Cough
Many infections are transmitted through the air by coughing or sneezing.

Common Cold  or Sore Throat

Skin Infections
Unexplained rash, boils, ringworm, impetigo, etc.

Head Lice

Also
Any symptoms of unusual childhood diseases: Scarlet fever, German measles, mumps, chicken pox, whooping cough, pink eye, etc.

With the start of a new year, it's a good time to be reminded of our Kingdom Corner policies.  Please be sure you are aware of our polices and if you need another copy, please see Summer Harsch or any desk coordinator.
We will be shifting our visitor's check-in location just a bit on Sunday mornings.  Also, please be mindful that our children's wing can get a bit overcrowded.  In order to address this, consider only one parent dropping off and picking up and request visiting family and friends to wait in the lobby.  I believe this minor change will help the flow of traffic.  We are currently looking at other alternatives in order to resolve this problem.

Nursery

Please be sure to wear your nametags and smocks in the classroom.  This will let the parents know that you are not only the scheduled volunteer but also that you have been approved to be in the classroom.
We still have several empty spots for volunteers in nursery.  If you know of anyone who would be interested in assisting with our children, please have them contact Summer Harsch through the church office.  Please be in prayer that these spots will be filled.

Preschool

We are still in need of some volunteers for 2 yr. olds and 3 yr. olds.  If you know of anyone who would be interested, please have them contact Summer Harsch through the main office.  Please be in prayer that these spots would be filled.

Remember to take roll in your class at both hours.

I have had several parents say that they are glad their children are learing the same curriculum at both hours.  The children are retaining the Biblical accounts much better because we are spending more time on them.  Keep up the good work!

Elementary

We still have several openings for assistants.  Please be in prayer for these spots to be filled.  If you know of anyone who might be interested, please have them contact Summer Harsch through the church office.

Be sure to take attendance in your classroom at both hours.

Please be sure to wear your nametags.
