Men's Shepherding Group

Posted on Monday, March 26 2012 in Pastor's Corner
IT   IS   VERY  exciting  to  pause and reflect about the Lord’s blessings on the Riverbend ministry we call the Men’s Shepherding Group.

We began this ministry in November 2008 with 24 men, including four pastors who had a desire to mentor other men. Now we have expanded to 55 men, including six of our pastors.

Our desire from the start was to build a deeper solidarity in the men of our church—men who would stand for Truth, who would fight the enemy’s attempts to bring false doctrine into our church, who would seek to recognize budding problems among members and head them off.

I believe the Lord has answered our prayers, as all of these areas have shown measurable progress. I believe the Lord will continue to grow the original group of “shepherds,” if you will, into a deeper consecration with Him and a deeper loyalty to Him and His church.  I believe, too, that the additional men being mentored will continue to enhance the ministries at Riverbend  beyond our imaginations.

If you already haven’t done so, please put the Men’s Shepherding Group on your personal prayer list. Pray that God will provide direction for these men to become more godly in leading their families and in leading the church.

Urgency: Family Foundations

Posted on Monday, March 05 2012 in Pastor's Corner
ONLY  A  FEW  DAYS  remain

for purchasing advance tickets for the March 16-17 Family Foundations Conference at Riverbend.

The gentleman who is coming to be with us, Dr. Alex Chediak, is becoming a respected theologian in educational circles. He has been trained well and now he is training others well.

If you want the best for your children (or grandchildren) as they continue their education, then you want to be present. Our staff has planned this conference to be encouraging, challenging and enlightening.

So don’t hesitate in getting those tickets.  I can promise that the fellowship with other Riverbenders that weekend will be special, too.

Remember the Reason!

Posted on Thursday, December 15 2011 in Pastor's Corner
CHRISTMAS is always one of the most joyous times of the year. It's a time for family togetherness, great memories, tasty food, festive music, enjoying colorful decorations, exchanging gifts, doing for others and especially worshipping our glorious Savior.

That final phrase is the one Marki and I want to emphasize to all Riverbend members. It would be easy to get caught up in all the excitement and forget the real reason for it all.  As believers, and particularly Riverbend believers, let's remember the reason for the Christ-mas season ... and help others to remember it, as well.

Exciting Days!

Posted on Tuesday, September 20 2011 in Pastor's Corner

IT  HAS  BEEN  AN  exciting few weeks at Riverbend, hasn’t it? We have seen most of the finishing touches put on the Worship Center’s massive renovation project. The exclamation point will be the arrival of new chairs, which should happen by mid-October.

The graded choirs have all resumed rehearsals after the summer break, and  TAG (Truth & Grace Club) for our children is in full swing. Let me say “thanks” to all of you who are working with our children.  You are making a great investment in many lives, helping mold a future generation of godly men and women.

The 9/11...Not Forgotten presentations (photos on page 3) were a stern reminder of what happens when a nation strays from God.  May every anniversary of that 2001 attack be a beckoning back toward the Lord.

It was a great honor for me to be able to preach the sermon for Jeff Eckert’s ordination into the gospel ministry.  Pray for Pastor Jeff as he takes over the college ministry and attempts to develop a gospel outreach on area college campuses.

Some other events are also exciting—the upcoming Men’s Cookout, the new Foot-care Ministry, the addition of R-mail, the Creation seminar in October.

Exciting days!  Praise the Lord!

R-Mail

Posted on Saturday, September 10 2011 in Pastor's Corner
IF  YOU  receive e-mails—and most of us do—please be certain that your e-mail address  is on file in the church office.  And if you change e-mail addresses, be certain that you notify the office about it.

Why?  Because e-mail has become one of the more effective means of communication. It is one of the quicker yet less expensive ways of social connection and interaction.

That’s why we are sending this publication via e-mail.  It is also why we have recently added a new publication—R-mail.  You receive the Connection newsletter one week, R-mail (news & notes) the next.

Don’t miss out on knowing what’s happening at Riverbend! Be certain the office has your e-mail address.

9-11 ... Not Forgotten

Posted on Saturday, August 27 2011 in Pastor's Corner
JUST AS THE   Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor slashed into the very core and spirit of the USA, so are the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, indelibly embedded in the hearts and minds of all true American patriots.

The 2001 attack, 60 years after Pearl Harbor, was a wake-up call. When we, as a nation, ignore God and the principles on which we were founded, we push God—and His hand of protection—away.

At Riverbend we do not want to forget what can happen when our society totally disregards God.  That’s the reason for our Sept. 11 anniversary event (see above).

Attend ... and use the provided materials to invite others.  No one should be allowed to forget.

Worship Center

Posted on Thursday, August 11 2011 in Pastor's Corner

THANK YOU for your patience and flexibility over the last several months while our Worship Center has been undergoing a make-over. It has been a lengthy ordeal. But, praise the Lord, we are nearing completion.

The new floor has been one of the more time-consuming aspects of the process. The benefits ahead should make us even more grateful that the Lord provided the means for us to have the new surface.

Our staff spent several months researching the floor situation and visiting sites with different types of surfaces. We believe the one being installed is best for our situation.

Riverbend Academy will notice an immediate benefit. The Warriors' basketball team will be able to practice on an approved surface and hopefully will be able in the 2011-12 season to play its home games on it. Having played a lot of basketball myself, I can say that it is a great benefit to play and practice on the same floor.

A few other tidbits remain to be done in the Worship Center for all the plans to be complete. But it is taking shape, thanks to a lot of volunteering Riverbend members being involved and making it happen.

The improved sound, the enhanced lighting, the acoustical curtains, the new floor and more—Praise the Lord!

Riverbend Connection

Posted on Tuesday, July 26 2011 in Pastor's Corner

TECHNOLOGY is advancing faster than most people can handle, and we at Riverbend want to keep pace with it as best we can.

Therefore, we are planning to send this publication, the Riverbend Connection, to most of our members via e-mail. Some 319 of us have received the Connection by e-mail for several months. It has worked well on the sending and the receiving ends and saved considerable expense in the church budget. Recipients have been receiving it five to seven days faster than regular mail.

So, if you have e-mail access, be certain the church office has your e-mail address so that you can be included on the speedy mailing list-—and get news/info more timely.
