Behold Him
Pastor: Brian Giaquinto Series: Road to the Resurrection Scripture: John 19:1–42
Behold Him in John 19 as the suffering Savior, mocked by men yet revealed as the true King through divine irony. Though declared innocent, Jesus is scourged, crowned with thorns, and presented to the world as “the man,” the second Adam who brings life where the first brought death. What appears as weakness is, by faith, the willing obedience of the Son accomplishing the Father’s plan.
At the cross, Christ bears the weight of sin, upholding even the wood on which He is crucified, demonstrating both sovereign power and sacrificial love. The crowds reject their King, yet God proclaims His kingship for all to see, fulfilling Scripture in every detail. Here we behold the heart of the gospel: Jesus Christ crucified in the place of sinners, securing redemption through His blood.
“It is finished” declares the completion of salvation, as Jesus willingly gives up His spirit and fully satisfies the debt of sin. Buried in a garden tomb, the second Adam triumphs where the first failed, pointing to new life for all who believe. This passage calls us not merely to observe, but to behold Christ in faith, trust in His finished work, and follow Him in a life marked by surrender and devotion.
