Wanting the Smoke But Not the Incense

Pastor: Brian Giaquinto Scripture: Leviticus 10:1–11

What happens when worship is sincere—but not obedient? In this sermon from Leviticus 10, we confront the sobering account of Nadab and Abihu and the danger of offering “strange fire” before a holy God. Their story presses us to examine not just that we worship, but how we worship.

This message explores corrupt worship, the principle of God’s holiness, and the call to consecrated, God-centered worship. It challenges the modern tendency to chase emotion and preference while neglecting reverence and biblical patterns.

True worship is not shaped by what we feel, but by what God has revealed. Yet the sermon does not leave us in fear—it points us to Christ, the perfect worshiper. Through Him, our flawed worship is made acceptable before God. The call is clear: pursue both the “smoke” (passion) and the “incense” (obedient, reverent worship), grounded in the gospel.
