The Living Hope of the Elect Exiles

Series: 1 Peter // Holy Living in a Hostile World Scripture: 1 Peter 1:1–5

In this opening message from 1 Peter, we begin our new series, Holy Living in a Hostile World, by examining the identity and hope of the “elect exiles.” Peter reminds believers that this world is not our home, yet God has not left His people without hope, security, or purpose.

This sermon explores the sovereign mercy of God in salvation, the new birth granted through Christ, and the living hope secured by His resurrection. Though believers face trials, hostility, suffering, and weakness in this present age, our inheritance is imperishable, undefiled, unfading, and kept in heaven for us. Even more, we are being guarded by the power of God until the day our salvation is fully revealed.

Through 1 Peter 1:1–5, we are called to praise God for His mercy, rest in His promises, and live faithfully as strangers in a world opposed to Christ.
