Two Marks of Genuine Love: Hospitality and Service
Series: 1 Peter // Holy Living in a Hostile World Scripture: 1 Peter 4:9–11
What does genuine Christian love actually look like?
In 1 Peter 4:9–11, Peter gives us two practical marks of genuine love within the church: hospitality and service. In a world that often encourages us to prioritize comfort, convenience, and ourselves, Christians are called to intentionally open their lives to one another and faithfully use the gifts God has given them to serve others.
Hospitality is more than entertaining guests or preparing an impressive meal. It is an opportunity to fight selfishness, build meaningful relationships, encourage fellow believers, and give others a taste of the heavenly home we are ultimately waiting for. Likewise, every believer has received gifts from God—not for personal recognition or comparison, but to serve the body of Christ and bring glory to Jesus.
As Peter reminds us, everything we have belongs to God, and our lives are meant to be lived for His glory and the good of others. The question isn't whether we have something to offer, but whether we are faithfully using what God has given us.
Join us as we consider what it looks like for a church to express genuine, biblical love through hospitality and faithful service.
